Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)

FASD refers to a range of conditions caused by exposure to alcohol before birth.

FASD is a permanent and life-long neurodevelopmental disability and often results in cognitive, physical and behavioural issues.

NACCHO acknowledges the community-controlled sector’s leadership in developing strength-based approaches to addressing FASD, and supporting people with FASD and their families and carers. A range of campaign and information resources are being developed to support our Members and their communities.

Strong Born is a communications campaign designed to raise awareness of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and the risks of drinking alcohol while pregnant and breastfeeding, among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in rural and remote communities.
