APC Board Director or Accreditation Committee Member

  • Australian Pharmacy Council Ltd (APC) is the independent accreditation authority for pharmacy education and training. Our purpose is ‘Improving healthcare by advancing and assuring quality in pharmacy education’.   • We commit to a health system free of racism and discrimination by contributing to a culturally safe pharmacy workforce.
  • As part of this we are increasing the voices of First Nations people in our governance structures and have created additional positions within our Board and Accreditation Committee. We currently have one person on each, who identifies as Aboriginal and adding an additional person to each body will raise the voices.
  • Therefore, we are seeking applications from individuals who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and who have a commitment to improving healthcare by advancing and assuring quality in pharmacy education to fill the following positions:
  • 1x Board Director
  • 1x Accreditation Committee member.

APC Board Director position

  • We are seeking one individual to join the APC Board in a First Nations member position. This will increase the numbers of First Nations directors on our board from one to two.
  • The APC Board is responsible for governance of the company and the accreditation functions assigned to APC under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law. Their role is set out in our Constitution.
    • The successful applicant will, in addition to undergoing the required APC induction processes, be offered access to the AICD Company Director course if they have not already completed this. Additionally, they will be offered mentoring from the other First Nations APC Board member and external resources, should they wish. To see our current Board Directors, please see here.
    • All applicants must abide by the expectations of a Company Director, as defined by the Corporations Act 2001, and be residents of Australia.

    Personal Attributes

    Defined reasons to become a director of the Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) and ability to advocate for the future direction of APC

    Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to be an active contributor

    Person who identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander with cultural capacity and demonstrated connection to country and community

    Desirable

    Governance

    Demonstrated company governance experience, strong financial literacy and understanding of risk management

    Demonstrated integrity and understanding of the duty of care of a director

    Industry Skills (at least one)

    Demonstrated leadership as a respected pharmacy academic and educator

    An understanding of the health sector & the role of the pharmacist

    Demonstrated deep understanding of decision-making policy and processes within the health sector

    Demonstrated experience in health care innovation and practice change

    Demonstrated leadership as a respected community or primary care pharmacist

    Demonstrated leadership as a respected hospital pharmacist

    Ability to represent a broad perspective of consumer and patient need

    Accreditation Committee (AC) position

    • We are seeking one individual to join the APC Accreditation Committee (AC) in an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander member position. This will increase the numbers of First Nations members on our Committee from one to two.
    • The AC is an operational committee of APC that reports to the CEO. Their role is described in the AC By-Law and includes deciding and monitoring the accreditation of pharmacy degree and intern training programs, and CPD accrediting organisations against the relevant accreditation standards.     • The successful applicant will be provided with an induction by the APC Accreditation Team including access to our online AC Member Training modules.

    Appointments

    Board

    Appointments are made in accordance with the APC Constitution and Board Selection and Appointment Policy.

    Short-listed applicants may be invited for an interview with the Board Selection Committee as part of the process before recommendation to the Board.

    Applicants who have membership of the Australian Institute of Company Directors may be prioritised.

    Accreditation Committee (AC)

    Appointments are made in accordance with the Accreditation Committee By-Law.

    Board

    The APC Board usually meets four times a year in Canberra or by Zoom. We provide Directors with modest remuneration, economy air travel, accommodation (where necessary) and other reasonable travel expenses for meeting attendance. Directors are expected to also take on Committees and Working groups as needed. 

    Accreditation Committee (AC)

    The AC usually meets four times a year, with three of these meetings held face to face. AC members are provided with modest remuneration, economy air travel, accommodation (where necessary) and other reasonable travel expenses for meeting attendance.
