About the Institute
Located on Gadigal and Bidjigal land (Randwick NSW), Black Dog Institute is the only Medical Research Institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the lifespan, our aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone. For the past 20 years, we have been at the forefront of mental health research. We house the only Lived Experience center for First Nations peoples in the world. The center elevates the voices of First Nations peoples and shares their stories to co-design, inform, and deliver culturally responsive mental health and suicide prevention initiatives. The Role
As the National Network Manger you will assess readiness, establish and manage First Nations community lived experience networks across Australia. Connect with sites which are a National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) Initiative that are currently being set up across the country and manage the implementation and continuous quality improvement of Local Lived Experience Networks throughout Australia. You will also provide strategic direction to all Lived Experience Networks as well as develop and implement best practice for First Nations governance, cultural responsiveness, embedded with strong wellbeing principles.
Duties & Responsibilties
- Collaborate with the Head of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Lived Experience Centre, and broader team to develop and implement an operational plan for the Local Lived Experience Networks across Australia
- Provide strategic direction for all Local Lived Experience Networks set up across Australia
- Connect Local Lived Experience Networks with opportunities to contribute to the mental health and suicide prevention sectors at a state and national level
- Lead the development of relevant policies and procedures relating to cultural and psychological safety culturally responsive training and development and facilitate for Local Lived Experience Networks
- Contribute directly to newsletters, journals and publications, and proposals for additional funding
Skills & Experience Required
- At least 5 years’ similar employment experience such as coordinating projects in a community, state, or national level and or network of individuals
- Demonstrated experience in project management, organisational wide initiatives, and time management skills with the ability to multitask competing priorities and deadlines
- Demonstrated experience in establishing governance, strategic and operational planning, psychological safety, and cultural protocols in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contexts
- Demonstrated experience in engaging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a lived experience of mental health and/or suicide prevention in programs, services and/or research
- Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining effective networks and managing relationships with external organisations
