Fixed-term, full-time or part-time (0.8 -1 FTE) contract until 30 June 2025

Based in Darwin | Travel to remote communities.

Base salary $81,803 – $87,901 per annum, pro-rata, plus super and salary packaging

About the Role:

Menzies is looking for an Aboriginal Health worker to be part of the Deadly Ears in Deadly Hands research team.

The Aboriginal Health Worker will work within the Deadly Ears in Deadly Hands research team to yarn with and support families of children in the Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) paediatric wards and assist with the identification of those children who are suitable to join the research study. The incumbent will also assist with the ear and hearing assessments, collecting health information from the families and medical records and entering this data into the study database, supporting the families through the hospital discharge process, and helping the carers understand the healthcare requirements of their child after they leave the hospital. The Aboriginal Health Worker will also be involved in the follow-up of the children in the study, conducting satisfaction questionnaires with the family members, and arranging and assisting with follow-up ear health checks.

This position is based in Darwin; however, there may be a requirement to travel remotely via light aircraft and/or 4WD up to 2 days per trip, 15 times a year.

What you will bring to the role

As an enthusiastic, qualified Aboriginal Health worker, you will have excellent communication and organisational skills and ability to:

• To communicate with Aboriginal people and people from diverse cultures and ability to build strong productive relationships within an organisation and collaborative external partnerships.
• Demonstrated reliability and strong work ethic with capacity to work without constant direct supervision as part of a multidisciplinary team and maintain good organisational and time management skills.
• Willingness to learn ear examination skills such as otoscopy, tympanometry and hearScreen, as well as other research skills as required.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of data and personal information and exercise diplomacy and discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential issues.
• Demonstrated computer literacy and record keeping skills including proficient use of Microsoft Office suite for data collection and recording of information.

You will also have Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care and relevant work experience.
