Aged Care
In contemporary Australia, Elders and older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are cultural knowledge holders. They are central to the continuation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who require aged care should be embraced by an aged care system that shows respect for their cultures and heritage.
However, we know that the current aged care system often struggles to provide appropriate care to people with diverse needs.
NACCHO has two programs to help address the growing needs of older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through these programs, NACCHO will advocate for improvements to the aged care systems and demonstrate the strength of programs delivered for community, by community.
