Registered Nurse – Emergency Department

About the role: 

Join our dynamic team as a Registered Nurse specialising in the Emergency Department (ED) and Close Observation Unit (COU). Depending on your skill level and Emergency Triage experience, you will be strategically placed within either our 7-bed ED or the 6-bed Close Observation Unit. This placement offers diverse experiences and ample opportunities for upskilling and career advancement. Our fast-paced environment ensures exposure to complex cases, fostering continuous professional growth supported by senior staff, dedicated educators, and Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS).

We prioritise professional development, facilitating seamless transitions within the ED and encouraging ongoing upskilling across various areas. Your role will be pivotal in coordinating with the Admissions team, various wards, and a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure efficient patient transfers and thorough handovers. Where you’ll be working: 

  • You’ll be part of a diverse, multidisciplinary team of approximately 30 staff members, working in a fast-paced environment that values teamwork and open communication. As we transition the Emergency Department to our new state-of-the-art facility, you’ll have the exciting opportunity to contribute to the planning and redevelopment process alongside your colleagues. Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our cutting-edge equipment, including new cardiac monitors, defibrillators, and other top-of-the-line technology, ensuring that we deliver the highest standard of care to our patients.   • Are you ready to be part of an exciting journey at Cessnock District Hospital? Our upcoming expansion includes increasing inpatient units in the new hospital, and you have the opportunity to be involved in the development of this state-of-the-art facility. Join our team and work closely with the team nursing model, providing exceptional care to both subacute and acute medical patients transitioning from the Emergency Department. You’ll have the chance to contribute to the design and implementation of innovative care strategies in our new facility, which is set to be completed by approximately 2026.

About you: 

  • You possess strong leadership and teamwork skills, fostering collaboration and effective team dynamics.
  • You are proficient in advanced life support for adults and paediatrics, with extensive critical care experience and cannulation techniques.

Requirements and additional information:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
  • Demonstrated experience in critical care, including triage and emergency experience.
