The FNHWT program supports up to 500 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander trainees to become Aboriginal Health Workers or Health Practitioners. Trainees will undertake Certificate III or Certificate IV qualifications in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care training package.

NACCHO are active in a variety of ways in the disability sector helping with creating roles and pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a disability access the NDIS and mainstream services. This includes:

The Elder Care Support program and Home Care Workforce Support Program help address the growing needs of older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples experience different health outcomes to non-Indigenous Australians. Not only are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples more likely to be diagnosed with cancer, but they are also likely to receive care that doesn’t meet their needs and have worse cancer outcomes.
