The Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (DYHS) was established in 1974 and is the largest Aboriginal community-controlled health service provider in Western Australia, providing care to over 20,000 Aboriginal patients across four clinics in East Perth, Mirrabooka, Maddington and Midland.

Our staff enable the delivery of culturally responsive primary health services, focusing on prevention, early intervention, comprehensive care and care coordination including chronic disease management. 

About the Role

A new opportunity has become available for a fixed term Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) – Sexual Health to join the DYHS Team. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide sexual health care for Aboriginal individuals, families and community groups. Aboriginal Health Practitioners within Derbyl Yerrigan Health Service assist in arranging and coordinating health care plans for clients. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your skills to an integral service which will improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people, providing culturally appropriate sexual health care for Aboriginal clients.

We’re seeking candidates, with the following:

1. Is of Aboriginal descent and is accepted and recognised as an Aboriginal person by the local Aboriginal (Noongar) community; 
2. Current registration with AHPRA as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner;
3. Certificate IV or Diploma in Aboriginal Health;
4. Knowledge of current health issues, impacting on Aboriginal Health;
5. Understanding the principles of public health including health education, health promotions and disease prevention;
6. Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary team environment;
7. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and security of records and information;
8. Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Relations and Equal Employment Opportunity Legislation;
9. Current Senior First Aid Certificate;
10. A National Police Criminal History check (less than 3 months old) with an acceptable outcome, a current Working with Children Check, a current Western Australian Driver’s Licence and fully Covid-19 vaccinated.
