About the Team

The Aboriginal Health and Engagement Team plays a key role in supporting Monash Health to better meet the health and well-being needs of our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their communities more broadly.

About the role

The Chief Aboriginal Health Advisor provides strategic cultural advice and leadership across the organisation to ensure that Monash Health is providing culturally appropriate healthcare across the spectrum of their services and a culturally inclusive workplace for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will also be working with the broader Executive team to strengthen cultural capabilities, drive the development and delivery of Monash Health’s Reconciliation Action Plan and Cultural Safety Plan and build engagement relating to Aboriginal health and wellbeing with employees, management, and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

o Promoting reconciliation with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and to provide access to culturally appropriate healthcare to improve the health outcomes our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients

o Leading the development of a strategic approach to Aboriginal Health and Engagement at Monash Health

o Provide expert subject matter advice to the Chief Executive, Executive Management Team, and key stakeholders on a broad range of issues relating to Aboriginal Health and Engagement, inclusive of both patients and employees

o Chair the Aboriginal Health Strategic Partnership Committee of the Monash Health Board,

o Chair the Aboriginal Health Working Group and report activities and priorities regularly to the Aboriginal Health Strategic Partnership Committee

o Promote and contribute to the development of a culture of learning and evidence-based practice to achieve excellence in service delivery within the Aboriginal Health and Engagement directorate and more broadly across the organisation

o To be a key point of contact for Aboriginal employees for advice, feedback, and suggested improvements to employment arrangements

About you

About you You will be a confident, respectful, influential, and experienced Aboriginal leader. You will have the demonstrated ability to provide culturally strategic advice and take on a strategic approach to Aboriginal Health and Engagement at Monash Health.

Monash Health are looking for someone who can advocate for positive change in relation to workplace issues that are relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees, as well as experience in planning, coordinating, and managing change to support the implementation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs. You will have in depth experience liaising with Aboriginal organizations, government agencies and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities with strong connections throughout the Victoria region.

Essential requirements

o Bachelor’s degree qualification(s) in a Health field (Nursing, Allied Health), Social Sciences or Public Health o Registration with the relevant national registration body as appropriate.

o Postgraduate qualifications in Healthcare, Leadership or Public Health or progressing towards one of these – Desirable.

o Qualification in project management, process improvement, change management or improvement science – Desirable.
