About the team:
Population Health is located on the historic Wallsend Campus where you can enjoy free parking, daily coffee truck, outdoor seating and is closely located to the Hunter Expressway. The Population Health unit monitors health threats and diseases, responds to environmental and communicable disease threats, and promotes policies, environments, and behaviours that improve health.

Population Health provides a culturally safe and supportive workplace. You will receive both face to face and mandatory online training.

About the job:
This role will play a pivotal role in managing infectious disease outbreaks in the Hunter New England area and coordinating One Health activities across Hunter New England and beyond. The position also has a key role in providing epidemiological support and conducting operational research on zoonotic diseases.

The role collaborates with other clinical and related disciplines to ensure that Hunter New England is well prepared to respond to biopreparedness challenges.

You will work alongside dynamic Registered Nurses, Public Health Physicians, Aboriginal Health Workers, Statisticians, Project Officers and Information Resource Specialists.

As an expert in your field, you will bring your exceptional skills in:

  • Disease control programs and public health surveillance
  • Investigating zoonotic and other infectious disease outbreaks
  • High-level project management skills
  • Epidemiology of communicable diseases
  • Time management and work prioritisation skills

Requirements:
Our successful candidate will possess the following:

  1. Relevant postgraduate tertiary qualification in epidemiology (Masters or Doctoral level) and extensive relevant experience.
  2. Demonstrated expertise and experience in conducting outbreak investigations using both case-control and cohort methodologies.
  3. An understanding of the epidemiology of communicable diseases.
