The Role

There is an exciting opportunity to join our Safeguards Team in Adolescent Forensic Mental Health: a highly skilled multidisciplinary team (MDT) that will provide mental health and discipline-specific assessment, intervention and care coordination to young people and their families in the community with complex mental health needs who are in contact with the criminal justice system.

As part of our expansion, we are implementing a hub and spoke model to support young people in identified regional areas across the state including North Coast, Dubbo, Wagga Wagga and Newcastle. In these spoke sites, local Justice Health NSW clinicians collaborate with a broader MDT based at the metropolitan hub site to provide comprehensive support.

The Mental Health Clinician (Aboriginal Identified), Adolescent Forensic Mental Health Safeguards role requires community outreach support for young people and families, with the possibility of afterhours and/or weekend work as part of a broader team Safeguards roster. It is a dynamic role that requires adaptability, strong communication, and collaboration skills to effectively meet the diverse needs of our clients.

The primary purpose of this position will be to plan, coordinate, and provide evidence based, trauma informed and culturally and developmentally appropriate assessment and treatment to both Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal children and adolescents in acute mental health distress, and their families.

This is an identified Aboriginal Position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent. Exemption is claimed under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Aboriginal applicants must demonstrate Aboriginality in addition to addressing the selection criteria.
